    Following my science degree, I completed a diploma in proofreading and did some proofreading for students.

    After a stint of travelling, I moved to Scotland and completed the MLitt in Publishing Studies at the University of Stirling. On finishing, I worked for several years in a publishing services company, editing medical journals.

    I am now working as a freelance copy-editor and proofreader in the Highlands of Scotland.

    I love reading (how predictable!), music, travel, food, hiking and nature.

  • SERVICES

    I edit non-fiction, with a particular focus on medical text, ESL, school books, academic content (including essays, PhD theses), websites. If English is not your first language, or you feel your text is too lengthy or unclear, or you need your text to conform to a certain journal or publisher style, I can help.

    Copy-editing focuses on the detail of a text: checking grammar, spelling and punctuation; applying consistency to the language and formatting; and making sure it’s clear and reads well for its intended purpose. This is done before typesetting.

    Proofreading is the final quality check before publication, but after editing and layout.

    Proofreading or light copy-editing: from £28.50 per hour.

    Standard copy-editing: starting at £33 per hour.
